Cake stand trends are on the rise, you have to keep a sharp eye out or you will fall behind. Make one of your goals this year to keep up on all the best cake stand trends. You can use this post to get ready to crush that goal.
There are five more days left of 2023… Can you believe that? I have been reading through some data put out by Pinterest, the food network, and Meta, and I want to start a mini series where I give you my predictions for certain styles and new trends that I predict we will see in 2024 and what they mean for you and your baking. This post will be all about cake stand trends
Why Cake stand trends matter
I know that some of you will be thinking “who cares?” And honestly, fair. I used to think that all the time, but in recent years, I have realized that I am always behind. By the time that trends get started, go viral on TikTok, make their way into my shopping cart, and finally get delivered to my doorstep, some new trend is already taking its place and the cycle continues. This is the worst with wedding trends. That is why this year, I am going to get ahead of trends.
What Some Cake Stand Trends?
I have boiled down all of my cake stand trends predictions into nine different categories that you should use as you are shopping for cake stands this year. Side note: if you can incorporate multiple categories in a single cake stand, that is a better option. I have pasted links at the bottom of this post to help you get started, but please DM me any great cake stands that you find!!
Bluest Blue
Blue has been making a comeback in the end of 2023, especially in makeup, but you should begin looking for a good blue cake stand. Not dark blue, not light blue, not seafoam, but a solid color blue cake stand. You can buy my cake stand here, and this recipe is my White Chocolate Pretzel Cake
Gothic Matte – Cake Stand Trends
This one might shock you, but it actually makes sense. When you think about it, goth has been making a huge appearance ever since Jenna Ortega killed it on Netflix’s Wednesday. One of the trends that will get big on Pinterest and Instagram is what I am calling a Gothic Western vibe. One way I am going to incorporate this into my aesthetic is a matte black cake stand with rustic accent pieces to give it that western vibe. I got mine here
Chrome
We are throwing back to the 1950’s for this one. Chrome can be difficult to incorporate into your aesthetic. But 2024 is the year you branch out and try new things. So get that metallic cake stand and let’s see what kind of elegant aesthetics we can come up with this year. One of the concepts I cannot get out of my head is a winter wedding with a heavy chrome cake stand. I think this would be the perfect fit for a two-tiered cake. This one I got at homegoods, but here is one similar!
A Dessert Board or Dessert Table
This is a prediction that I have no question will be viral. This will be a huge trend for an outdoor wedding and is the perfect way to showcase an entire dessert display and your favorite dessert. This will be the perfect place for cake pops, mini cakes, and a place to play around with different sizes of desserts as well. So what should you do to get ready? Get a big charcuterie board. This is honestly becoming a must have for every kitchen. You can use it as a grazing table, classic charcuterie board, and now, a dessert board. Here is the link to the one I used here!
Rustic Western & Wooden Sheik
Stained wood and farmhouse vibes were a staple growing up that I have really tried to get away from them. But as the world gets more urban, I think a lot of people are looking back to simpler times. That being said, these trends are not coming straight from southeastern Idaho. They are getting a touch up and I am honestly here for it. I want you to think of Rose Apothecary from Schitt’s Creek. Simple, but elegant, perfect for a rustic wedding. If I were you, I would use some edible gold leaf on traditional white wedding cakes to really make the modern pop. Here is the
70’s Retro
This is one of the biggest trends that I am predicting coming out of 2024. And it is all about the 70’s big colors and big patterns. Ever since Barbie and Ken roller-skated into our hearts, the 70’s have started to make a huge comeback. Leave it to Gen Z to have both big colors and different shapes and moody colors trending all in the same year, but it is time to embrace the chaos. The best part is that any classic cake will go perfectly on these loud cake stands. Here is the cake stand I have!
Whitest Wedding
I have to leave a little space for the classic white. Some things never go out of style and a white cake stand never will, especially when you combine them with fresh flowers or sugar flowers. Even though we are starting to move away from traditional wedding styles, owning a white cake stand is still crucial. This is because it will allow you you to follow new wedding cake styles, while your cake stand keeps the wedding cake as the centerpiece of your reception. If you do not have an elegant white cake stand, here is one!
Over The Top
Finally, and maybe most importantly, we can say goodbye to 2023 and with it, the minimalist look. Ever since Covid-19, minimalism has begun to fade and the pendulum is swinging hard to the maximalist side. Say goodbye to naked cakes and mute colors, and say hello to maximalist designs with metallic accents. We want it loud and we want it now. Channel your inner art deco and go all out this year with some less traditional cake stands (maybe even some that are different shapes than just a circle top).
FAQ – Cake stand trends
Q: Where can I buy these cake stands?
Thrift stores and mom and pop shops. Another big trend that has been going on for the last little while and will continue strong throughout 2024 is repurposing and reusing. I know this can get pedantic. But you have to trust me, when you find that perfect stand, it will all be worth it.
Q: Where online can I find them?
Amazon, Walmart, World Market, Homegoods, Anthropology (this one surprises me how affordable they are there!) and Target. I have a curated list right here!
How to Store
My best tip for storing cake stands is to use them as decorations. From candle holders to centerpieces on my dining room table, I have found ways to sneak cake stands as decor. You should thoroughly wash your cake stands before you use them if they have been holding a candle or even if they have been used as a decoration.
