Nutella Banana Bread – moist and soft banana bread base with a chocolate hazelnut spread swirl. Topped with a cinnamon brown sugar crumb.
This Nutella banana bread is a family special! Well…. My MIL’s special recipe. I have lived away from home for almost 6 years now and somedays I long for family baked desserts around the dinner table playing cars. While my time away from home I realize that baking what we would eat when we were together is something I can do in my own home here. I’m taking Jamie’s basic banana bread recipe and adding Nutella, finishing it off with a brown sugar crumb.

Why this Nutella Banana Bread?
- Easy to make – just a few simple ingredients and most you will have on hand.
- Kid friendly – this recipe is very easy to make with little kids. Such a perfect afternoon little thing to do.
- Nutella – this is the kicker right here. Banana and Nutella are just two peas in a pod, smiling because they know they are the perfect combo.
- Cinnamon crunch topping – I decided to add a cinnamon crunch on top. This isn’t a crumble, but just a nice crunchy texture to add to the bread. You can omit this part out, but I highly recommend it!
Ingredients You Will Need
Here, are some ingredients that you will need for this recipe that you may not have in your pantry. For a full list, check out the recipe card for below.
- Unsalted butter – I always use unsalted, and this will need to room temperature.
- Sugar – you will use granulated sugar for the bread portion, but the cinnamon crunch I use brown sugar!
- Ripened bananas – I use medium to large, and I used 3 of them!
- Nutella – you won’t use too much, I just had a small jar and used about half of it!
Step by step instructions
Next, I have made a detailed list on to make and bake the Peanut Butter Oreo Cookies. I use my kitchen aid which I got from here. Here is the pan I used.
Step 1: Make the crumb topping. In a small bowl mix the ground cinnamon and brown sugar until combined. Set aside.
Step 2: Prep your pan. With cooking spray, generously spray the sides and crevices of a large size bread pan. Set aside,
Step 3: Cream the butter and sugar. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar on medium-high for 3 minutes.
Step 4: Add the eggs. Add the eggs, one at a time, scraping the sides and bottom after each addition.
Step 5: Add the bananas. Add the mashed bananas mix on low, until incorporated!
Step 6: Add the dry. Next add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix on the lowest speed just until combined and there are no flour streaks. Don’t over mix!
Step 7: Add the Nutella Pour half of the the banana bread batter into the prepped pan. With the back of the spoon, gently even it out, and make sure the batter gets into all four corners. Pour the Nutella onto the top of the banana bread batter. Pour the rest of the batter onto the Nutella spread. Spread with the back of the spoon to each corner of the pan.
Step 8: Add the topping. Generously sprinkle the cinnamon mixture to the top of the banana bread ensuring you cover the top.
Step 9: Bake. Bake for 65-68 minutes, or until a toothpick is inserted and comes out with a little crumbs. Let it cool completely in the pan before transferring onto Nutella on top. Serve and Enjoy!
Expert baking tips
- Use room temperature ingredients. This will help the bread to properly rise.
- Don’t over mix once the flour is added! That will cause a dry bread.
- Spray your pan thoroughly with cooking spray to help the bread to come out of the pan.
- After the 67 minutes were up, I turned off my oven and just let the bread sit in the oven for about 10 minute to insure the bread was baked.
- Use a high quality bread pan. This will help prevent overcooked edges. I got mine here

Store the nutella banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature. I like to store mine in a bread bag found here. Store up to 5 days (if it even lasts that long)
Freezing your Nutella Banana Bread
Freeze the banana bread whole or sliced. I suggest wrapping the bread in a bread bag or plastic wrap.
How to serve: Once the bread is done, I let it cool for 20 minutes and then cut right into it, but it is also delicious served at room tempature.
